Bingo and Oklahoma: Two birds of a feather

Oklahoma has long been interrelated with Bingo. That is because the Amerindian bands of Oklahoma have operated Bingo sessions for years. Clients from each of the neighboring states get in automobiles and visit Oklahoma to enjoy Bingo over the weekends.

The 1988 IGRA followed a benchmark decision by The U.S. Supreme Court the year before. From that time, twenty three of the 39 American Indian bands located in Oklahoma have introduced bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma Amerindian band to take advantage of the gambling laws, and today operate 10 gambling dens of their own. Bingo was the game on which the above-mentioned gambling halls were built on. automated games such as slot machines weren’t allowed, because they are thought to contribute to gambling addiction more than bingo.

In recent years, Oklahoma rules have changed to permit big Native gaming casinos. You will now see Amerindian gambling dens with slot machines, video poker and twenty-one tables. Craps and roulette are still not authorized in the Native casinos as of yet, but that is only a waiting game. Nobody can determine what having other games in the bingo parlours will do for the appeal of bingo.
